Amurrio was traditionally known as "El Crucero," a meeting point for routes between Castile and the Cantabrian ports. In the town center, the Ugarte Tower House (18th century), now the Cultural Center, the San Antón de Armuru Chapel (16th century), and the Church of Santa María with its 25-bell carillon, one of the largest in the Basque Country, stand out.

Pico del Fraile (864 m) is a mountain in the Cordillera. There is a path to the top. The nearest mountain refuge is Refugio del Tolope, located 1,037 m/3,402 ft NNW from the summit.

This rocky peak is vertical on all its flanks, which makes it necessary to use leather straps during the ascent. It was first climbed in 1924 by Ángel Sopeña, precursor of climbing in the Basque Country. Its name comes from its resemblance to the figure of an abbot.

Summit located at an altitude of 1,078 meters on the border between Casitlla y León and the Basque Country, in the Sierra Sálvada. From the top you can see the characteristic relief of the mountain range with a very peculiar structure created by the steep slopes of the north.

Set of cliffs that appear along the Sierra Salvada and that go in a northerly direction. On the south side, the Burgalesa, the loins develop in the direction of the Río Nabón.

To the right of the path appears the Pico del Fraile where it is a huge pinnacle that separates from the cliff and where it has a special shape. It's worth stopping to see.

From Villasana de Mena, to the Cilieza neighborhood, through the Rollos or La Complacerá tunnel, you can access Castro Grande, a peak that faces the Fraile peak.
