Part of the Alfoz de Burgos region, it is located 20 kilometers from the capital of Burgos. The municipality's relief is defined by a plateau through which the Hontoria River and several streams flow. Also notable are the limestone mines that give the town its name. The altitude ranges from 1,040 meters (Gandral Hill) to 900 meters to the north, on the banks of a stream. The town itself rises to 1,003 meters above sea level.

Impressive statue of El Cid erected in 2008 and founded by the residents of Mecerreyes, it reaches 7m in height if we count the extension of the spear.

It is the greatest expression of the city's traditional architecture. It dates from the 15th century. Its facade consists of clay and the classic wooden framework. The wide arcade and the balcony offer incredible climatic possibilities, on the one hand to protect from the sun and on the other hand to enjoy.
