Almanza is a town in the region of the Cea river valley and has an old stone bridge that served as an important commercial passage across the river. Great place to start your adventure, with Almanza Castle and the old stone arch and tower among some of the best monuments to visit.

The ruins of the castle sit on a hill above the city of Cea. You can go up the hill to see the remains of part of the tower and the entrance arch. Access is free. Fantastic views of the city below and the surrounding grain fields.

Cea is a town of historical importance located in the southeastern part of the province of León, on the left bank of the Cea River. The most notable are the remains of the Royal Palace located on a hill above the city.

Together with the watchtower and the defensive wall, the Castillo de Almanza are the remains of the 13th century Castle-Palace located at the foot of the Picos de Europa.

Charming town with an unmistakable medieval character, its fairytale castle witnessed movie battles and its walls and entrance arch also help to set us in another era. However, not everything is medieval here and proof of this is its unique 28 m tower built in 1947 with the help of all the residents of the town.

The history of Cea can be interpreted through the picturesque stone bridge over the river that gives its name to the town. There are indications that this bridge was initially made of wood and was built to cross the river when its waters were high and it was not possible to pass through the usual fords. With the construction of the castle and the growth and prosperity that the town experienced, it is most probable (although it is not known with certainty) that the bridge was rebuilt with stones, or pebbles, giving it the popular name of Puente Canto de Cea. The bridge experienced various collapses and reconstructions over the centuries, leaving the mark of some of the stonemasons who worked on it.
