12월 14, 2024, Puerto de Matamachos
It is a beautiful mountain pass that links the Roncal Valley (Navarra) with the Ansó Valley (Aragon). It is a mountain pass that I am very fond of for several reasons: (i) the road is very winding, with many curves and hairpin bends, especially on the Navarre side (ii) it is a mountain pass with no steep slopes on either side (iii) there is hardly any car or motorcycle traffic. It is very peaceful and you can fully concentrate on the climb, on your pace, on your sensations. The asphalt on the Aragonese side is in very poor condition, although that also makes it attractive because you can imagine what the roads were like that professionals used in the 90s and before. It can be linked to other ports and is a beautiful gateway to the Pyrenees.

9월 26, 2024, Isaba Village
Isaba, also known as Izaba in Basque, is a picturesque village located in the Roncal Valley in the Navarrese Pyrenees, northern Spain. This charming village is known for its rich history dating back to the Middle Ages, when it was a strategic outpost for the Kingdom of Navarre. Isaba offers breathtaking scenery with lush green meadows in spring, colorful autumn leaves and snow-capped mountains in winter.

8월 21, 2024, Laza Pass (1129 m)
The Puerto de Laza is a small and beautiful hill that joins the valleys of Roncal (starting from Isaba) and Salazar (starting from Ochagavía) in the Navarrese Pyrenees. Both sides are very similar: a very easy start on a winding road, in perfect condition but without a hard shoulder, passing through small towns and going up the course of the respective rivers Anduña (Salazar valley) and Urbi (Roncal valley); a final stretch of 2 - 3 kms that is harder without being too much so, although there are some slopes above 10%. The Salazar valley side becomes harder when leaving behind the detour to the Larrau port. From here to the port there are 3 km with an average gradient of 7%. On the other hand, the Roncal valley side becomes harder when overcoming a bridge over the river that has been with us since we left Isaba behind. From here it is barely 2 km with an average gradient of 7%. From a landscape perspective, it is a port that I love because you can enjoy the exuberance of the vegetation of the Pyrenees, crossing narrow valleys and only with panoramic views when you reach the top, where there is a viewing point that is worth looking out at. A port that I always recommend for enjoying cycle tourism. I leave you the profile of both sides produced by the website www.cyclingcols.com --> http://www.cyclingcols.com/col/Laza

This descent has a very bumpy road surface, so that my bike computer mount broke. Luckily I had the safety line attached. The scenery, however, is very attractive and remote.

A beautiful port that unites the communities of Navarra and Aragón, specifically the towns of Ansó and Isaba. Specifically, it connects the Zuriza valley with the Roncal valley. It is a very affordable port and highly recommended because it allows you to travel through spectacular landscapes, on both sides. The Navarrese slope is shorter but more difficult than the Aragonese slope, which is very steep, except for the final kilometer which is 7 - 8%. What has been said, I reaffirm that it is a beautiful port that must be enjoyed.

3월 10, 2024, Col d'Irau
A remote port in the French Pyrenees with narrow roads in perfect condition where you can enjoy the beauty of the green pastures and the absolute tranquility of the place. It is an area where the weather is very changeable and you can have wonderful days or cold and rainy days in summer. It is an alternative road to the Col d'Errozate and connects with Surzai Lepoa. Without a doubt, a magical place and highly recommended.

It is one of the toughest Pyrenean passes and, in general, little known by the average amateur because it has been used very little in professional cycling races. It is a spectacular port on both sides. The eastern slope, which is the one marked in this section, is completely open, with hardly any vegetation, with a wide road in perfect condition. It is 9 km from the moment you get off the town of Larrau. The first 4 km are irregular, with some ramps that take your hiccups away. The last ones are literally very hard, with an average of 3 km at 12%!!!! The last km eases up a bit because it has a rest... but it also has important ramps. In addition to being tough, this port is spectacular for its landscapes and panoramic views. You can not lose this!!!! The views from the top are wonderful. You have to stand quietly to enjoy the beauty, especially on sunny spring and summer days.

It is a beautiful port of about 8 - 9 km for each of its slopes that connects Ochagavía with the sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves in the Irati Jungle, one of the entrances to the forest. It is highly recommended to try both slopes because, although similar in length and hardness, they are very different in terms of landscape. The southern slope of Ochagavía is very open, with views of the valley and the surrounding mountains at all times, crossing mountain meadows. On the other hand, on its northern slope, the climb runs through the Irati Forest surrounded by beech trees. The final part of this slope is clear, although you are inside a very charming gorge. The views from the top are simply wonderful. It is worth stopping carefully, observing the views and taking some photos. It is usually windy, so a windbreaker is essential.

Very charming town located in the Salazar valley, just 2 km from Ochagavía, which is a larger town maintaining the rustic and traditional charm of the towns in the Navarrese valleys. From Escaroz there is the road that connects the Salazar valley with the route that enters Spain via Roncesvalles. This road with ports and elevations is especially recommended.

Or “Bagargui” in its French version. A pass which constitutes a real challenge for any cyclist, because it is classified among the harshest in France, especially when the heat gets involved. The climb begins calmly with a normal slope during which you must take advantage of the opportunity to turn your legs and find your rhythm. Because the big piece soon arrives on the first bends with 5 km of extreme difficulty. Averages of 9.5 then 12, 13, 12.5 and 11% follow one another without any respite. But at the end of the effort you will finally be able to enjoy a magnificent panorama of the ridges and perhaps admire the flight of migratory birds or vultures.

Beautiful village which exudes Basque soul with its pediment next to the church. Note, a very cool fountain on one of the town squares which can save your day before facing the port of Larrau or the Bagargi. There is also another small fountain with a tap in the stone wall along the main road.

Mountain pass that connects the Salazar valley (Ezcaroz) with the town that bears its name, Jaurrieta. It is a port with a winding road in perfect condition with 4.3 km at 5.4% average slope. It is a very pleasant climb surrounded by trees and abundant vegetation, yet with many sections exposed to the Sun, without views until reaching the top. The views at the top are very beautiful and of course it is worth taking a photo with the peaks of the Pyrenees in the background. I attach the profile of the port drawn by cyclingcols.com --> http://www.cyclingcols.com/col/Jaurrieta

Border crossing between Spain and France. Beautiful and spectacular for both countries. From France, the route can be reached via two roads. What all three sides have in common: - narrow road - hardly any traffic - the initial section is completely covered by trees, passing through immense and beautiful beech forests - the final section is open, with spectacular views. At the top of Col d'Orgambide and Azpegui (on the Spanish side), you can walk to several ancient Neolithic buildings.
