The lords of Igartza built this service center in the 16th century and increased their wealth. Orio is a fishing town in the province of Gipuzkoa in the autonomous region of Basque Country in northern Spain. The town center is on the Oria River, a good kilometer from its mouth in the Bay of Biscay.

With its 2,500 meters of fine golden sand, it is the longest beach on the Basque coast. and it is ideal for beginners in surfing.
