Cañaveral is a Spanish town and municipality, located in the province of Cáceres, in the autonomous community of Extremadura. Administratively, it is part of the judicial district of Cáceres and the community of Riberos del Tajo. It is located in the center of the province, north of the Tagus River, near a chain of mountain ranges that extend from the Monfragüe National Park.

One of the gateways to the Monfragüe National Park, Serradilla is a small town on the route between Plasencia and the historic city of Cáceres.

The GR-113 runs through this pretty little town to the north of the Tagus River. The medieval temple of Santa Marina is an interesting place to visit during your stay.

The gothic bridge of San Benito crosses the Arroyo de las Juntas just one kilometer from the town of Cañaveral. It is a medieval construction dating from the fourteenth century.

Mirabel Castle was built in the 15th century on Cerro del Acero, which is why it is also known as the Peña del Acero castle. It is currently very deteriorated and only a few vestiges can be seen, such as a large brick vault and some walls.

A stupendous viewpoint from which we can contemplate, to our left, the Sierra Alambique and the Sierra de Santa Catalina. In front, to the right the Sierra de Peñafalcón and to the left the Sierra de la Cueva and in the middle of these two La Portilla, where the water of the Arroyo de la Garganta falls.

A waterfall of considerable height of 10 m. In the rocks that surround the place we can observe vultures. Near the waterfall we will find a picnic area.

Serradilla is a small town, a good starting point for various trails in the surrounding area, such as the Camino Natural de Tajo and the brown route in the Monfragüe National Park. It has some services such as bars, cafeterias, ATMs.
