Castillo de Almodóvar del Río (Hisnu-l-mudawar; "the round castle") is a castle of Arab Muslim origin in the town of Almodóvar del Río, Province of Córdoba, Spain. Previously a Roman fort, the current structure is of Arab Umayyad origin, in the year 760. During the Middle Ages, it underwent several renovations and reconstructions. Between 1901 and 1936, it was restored by the owner Raphael Desmaissiers, 12th Count of Torravala, under the technical direction of the architect Adolfo Fernández Casanova. The most important towers are the Cuadrada, the Redonda, and the Homenaje.

The Castillo de Almodóvar del Río, also known as Castillo de la Floresta, is located near the town of Almodóvar del Río and is a well-preserved and lavishly restored castle. The castle was built by the Moors in the 8th century for strategic reasons and was completed in the 12th century. Due to its location on a hill, it controlled a significant section of the Guadalquivir. The mighty towers of the complex are naturally reminiscent of the fortress and the wall of the Alhambra in Granada. There are a few parking spaces at the top in front of the castle gate, although the road up is winding and sometimes quite narrow. If you can't get a parking space at the top, you can park below the castle and climb the castle on foot. However, you should plan a few extra minutes for this.

The Castillo is definitely worth a visit and offers visitors a great tour of the many areas of the castle, from the castle wall to the towers, the dungeon and the castle courtyard. The visit usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours. We wanted to visit the castle in the evening and arrived there at 7 p.m. They actually wanted to close the castle gate and not let any new visitors in. We then quickly visited the castle in about 50 minutes. If you would like to visit the castle without many tourists, you should be there either when it opens or by 6:30 p.m. at the latest.
