From this hill we see the summit of Pic d'Ibantelly to our left, the French town of Sare at our feet, and Peña Plata to our right.

"Born in Biarritz in 1926, Maurice Abeberry died near this site on February 21, 1988 at the Zizkoitz pass, during a walk at La Rhune. A doctor of law, Maurice Abeberry became a lawyer in 1952. The following year, he was elected to the Biarritz Municipal Council. Co-editor in 1963 of the Itxassou charter, he devoted himself for a long time to the defense of Basque political refugees. Passionate about jazz, he is one of the founders of the Hot-club of Bayonne. Member of the Biarritz-Athlétic-Club (Basque pelota club) and the Basque Ballets "Oldarra", he became their President. He was also President of the Basque Country Pelota League, then, in 1972, of the French Pelota Federation. Member of the French Olympic Committee, he represented pelota at the Mexico Olympic Games. In 1986, he was named by Antenne 2, best sports manager in France. During the year following his death, Pantxua Saint Esteben made these sculptures in puddingstone rock to pay tribute to him." La Rhune or “Larrun” in Basque is a summit in the Basque Country which rises to an altitude of 901 meters. La Rhune, which is accessible by train or on foot, is located on the border between France and Spain.

Going up the Rhune via Olhette, several trails pass through here. I recommend that of the HRP variant 2.2

Located in Spain, a few steps from the border with France, the Col de Lizuniaga is 250 meters above sea level. From the village of Bera, the climb is 4.2 kilometers long with an average of 4.3% including a passage of 8.7% at most. At the foot of the Rhune, it offers a beautiful view of this emblematic summit of the Basque Country.

The Col de Descarga haundi offers a small flat area ideal for bivouacking. Several paths converge here, including the GR 10, the HRP (Haute Route Pyrénéenne) as well as paths that allow the ascent of the Ziburu and the Rhune.
