4월 3, 2024, Ferreries
The history of Ferrerías dates back to the Talayotic era, as demonstrated by the archaeological remains found in the area. During Muslim domination, the place was an important agricultural center. Later, in the 18th century, important mining activity was developed in the area, mainly iron extraction, which gave rise to the name of the town. The main festival of Ferrerías is usually celebrated in honor of San Bartolomé, the patron saint of the town. This festival takes place on August 24 of each year. During the festival, various cultural and religious events are organized, such as processions, solemn masses, concerts, traditional dances, fireworks shows and activities for children. During the Ferrerías festival, you can observe various local traditions, such as the exhibition of purebred Menorcan horses, shows of skilled riders performing acrobatics, and exhibitions of traditional carriages. Local gastronomy also plays a prominent role during the festival, with the celebration of gastronomic fairs where you can taste typical dishes of Menorcan cuisine, such as lobster stew, sobrasada, Mahón cheese, among others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIQuZuTzLfg

Not the easiet to bike in and out of- need good navigation equipment to find alternate routes- We found alot of gates that were locked so had to hike the bike over a wall or in some cases steps. Not ideal if you are new to the place or doing solo biking.

The bays Macarella and Macarelleta are the most popular on the island and are considered the most beautiful in Menorca. It can get very crowded here.

The bay is very beautiful, turquoise water and surrounded by high rocks. Good for swimming. Now in September it is very, very full because it is easily accessible. The high cliffs surrounding the place are very impressive!

Cala Turqueta is for many the most beautiful cove on the island, with the permission of Cala Pregonda. It is a small beach with blue waters with a white sand bottom surrounded by pine trees and divided into two parts by low rocks. Due to its orientation, in summer the shade reaches it a little earlier than the rest of the beaches, which usually empties quickly. Some say that the name comes from the turquoise color of the water, which is reminiscent of the clearest and most crystalline turquoise. Others say that the name recalls that this beach was a place chosen by the Turkish Pirates to land on Menorca. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fS_LZ8Ts3cw

Tourist and beautiful beach on the south coast of Menorca with turquoise waters and large rocks on both sides. It is a fairly wide cove, since it exceeds 300 meters in length. The environment surrounding the cove, covered by a pine forest, offers spectacular views.

Escorted by a wonderful typically Mediterranean pine forest, is one of the most famous beaches in Menorca. With turquoise and transparent water, together with white sand, Cala Macarella is one of the main postcards of the island.

Cala Galdana is unique on the island. It is surrounded by cliffs and has a small outlet to the sea that serves as a port for ships in the area. It is a very charming place.

Cala Turqueta is one of the most famous coves in Menorca. Its name comes from the fact that it was the beach where the Turks landed when they arrived on the island.

Cala Macarella is one of the most famous (and most visited) coves in Menorca. To access the beach, you will have to leave your car in a parking lot and walk a little over a kilometer.

Very nice beach with very fine white sand! The bay is quite flat and had no waves worth mentioning during our visit. At the nearby parking lot (belonging to the beach about 1 km away) there is a small kiosk. The parking lot is quite small and usually full early in the day. The status is signaled on the Ronda Cituadella via a display board.

Cala Galdana is a beautiful beach and a nice area to walk around. Those who prefer it quiet should not choose their hotel there in the high season 😉

There are even more beautiful, original bays on the island. This as a starting point for coastal hikes quite 😊 good.
