The origins of the castle, which can be accessed freely and free of charge, date back to Roman times, from which rises the main body of the castle, which is located on the highest point of the hill on which the fortress rests. The rest of the building dates from the 12th century and was built during the Almohad occupation. Three cisterns and part of their construction remain from the time of Muslim rule. Once the area fell into Christian hands, especially when administered by the Order of Santiago, numerous elements were added, most notably in the form of various walls surrounding the site. In 1620 Don Rodrigo Calderón of Valladolid served as a prison. Inside, in addition to two of its reservoirs, are the keep and cellars, while outside are the main cistern, a pond and a chapel built in the 17th century.
