From this gate the road that led to the Kingdom of Castile started and ended in the town of Molina de Aragón, from which it takes its name.

The Portal del Agua is one of the historic gates of the wall that protected the Albarracín suburb. Probably built in the 11th century during the Muslim era, it was rebuilt and fortified in the 13th and 14th centuries. This gate allowed the population to access the path that descended to the Guadalaviar River, hence its name.
