It is wonderful to pedal next to this reservoir, which usually has a good water level in spring.

From this point there are exceptional views of the Peñarrola Castle and, in the background, the Peñarroya Reservoir.

The reservoir reaches 43 hm³ due to the power of groundwater from the Campo de Montiel aquifer and the Lagunas de Ruidera.

One of the largest reservoirs located on the Guadiana River itself and which are part of the Lagunas de Ruidera natural park.

The fortress originated as a Muslim fort, which would pass into Christian hands in 1198, remaining in the hands of the Order of San Juan in 1215, although it was conquered with the help of the Order of Santiago. Legend has it that after taking the fortress the image of Our Lady of Peñarroya was found, venerated since then by the residents of Argamasilla de Alba and La Solana, who share the Patron Saint.

Pedaling along the CM-3105 road, you will find the Peñarroya Castle from the Muslim period on the shores of the Peñarroya Reservoir and dam. Situated on the north side of the Lagunas de Ruidera Natural Park, this is an incredible landscape of history and water.
