The Centenario fountain was inaugurated in 2002, as part of the celebrations of the centenary of the port of Castellón. This emblematic fountain is located on an old pier built at the end of the 19th century and includes a bronze sculpture by local artist Juan Ripollés. A notable historical detail is that the semicircle of stone surrounding the fountain is made up of 120 original ashlars that come from the old pier, adding significant heritage value to the project. Nowadays, already restored, it exhibits a lighting system at the base that will create visual effects with the water. The Royal Sanctuary is the vestige of the passage through Traiguera of the orders of Montesa and the Hospitallers. In 2007 it was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest with the category of monument. It has its origin in the 14th century, the period of maximum splendor being in the 16th century. It is the only one with the category of Royal of the province, granted by Charles V in 1542, renewed by Felipe II and confirmed by the Papal Bull in 1555. The set of buildings that exist today correspond basically to the 16th century, with transformations of the Gothic temple in the 17th and 18th centuries. The temple is located in the center of the complex, to the right are the well and the Miracle fountain as well as the medieval kitchen. On these, around a patio and on two levels, the hostageria is developed. On the left are the old house "of the Priests" and the remains of an old and unfinished palace. Preceding the entrance to the temple is the Renaissance portico from 1588. The belfry is the most emblematic element of the medieval hermitage built in 1439. This track saves you going up the first road section after the Via Verde finishes up to the Desert de les Palmes. It’s ok, a bit rocky in sections, but not overly technical and an easy gradient. As Donnacha mentioned, for the last 20M or so you have to push the bike up. This bike-carry section needs a bit of effort, but you are soon on the road to the Col.

This is a lovely short section which leads onto the road and the climb to El Bortolo. The last bit is a walking which is only a 20m walk with the bike to the road.
