At the edge of the caldera, at an altitude of approximately 2,400 meters, a number of telescopes are lined up at Roque de los Muchachos: optical and infrared night-vision telescopes, solar telescopes, and instruments for high-energy astrophysics. The beach is located right in Puerto de Tazacorte, with all its restaurants. Water and black lava sand—what more could you want? At the northern end, the water is protected from the surf by a breakwater (or was it once a pier?). All in all, quite nice ☺

One of the few sandy beaches (black sand) on La Palma. There are a few taverns, nothing particularly outstanding, but enough for a beer or a coffee. The scenery is beautiful, the harbor pier less so. The sunset at this spot is absolutely worth seeing – the light and colors are impressive – and that alone makes the visit worthwhile.

Eat well or enjoy the sunset? Yes, that's the question here? As a place to enjoy the sunset in Puerto Tazacorte, it's definitely a good choice. For a gastronomic highlight, there are certainly more worthwhile destinations in and around Tazacorte (see Carpe Diem). The service seemed rather lackluster, the food was average, and the house wine wasn't particularly great either. It's more of a place to cater to large crowds of tourists. The ambiance is quite tasteful, and for a beer at sunset, you can easily visit the Taberna del Puerto once—but that's enough.

Small fishing village below Tazacorte. From here the steep path leads to Maridor El Time. From there you have a great view over the gorge and the wider area.

It looks very spectacular and you can walk through the riverbed all the way to the sea.
