A beautiful path, but it's also very busy.

Well, hello! The trail we wanted to hike today was unfortunately closed, and hiking was prohibited. We went in a little way and took some photos. Many people struggled through the almost overgrown path. We decided to turn back and drove to where the trail ends, but we couldn't find a parking spot. The view of the beach and the Atlantic Ocean was beautiful.

El Peñón del Fraile in Puerto de la Cruz is a striking volcanic rock formed by the eruption of Mount Taoro in 1430. Known as a place of peace and meditation for a monk in the 17th century, the rock, with its small temple and staircase dating from 1814, offers a beautiful view of the coast.

A massive volcanic boulder, formed during the 1430 eruption, was the origin of the rock formation, which then drifted to the coast. It was named after the monk Juan Jesús, who climbed the rock to pray in the 18th century (other sources say 17th century). A small temple/chapel sits atop the rock, a unique feature. The rock can be accessed via a staircase. It is located within the city limits of Puerto de la Cruz, northeast of Castillo San Felipe. A new bronze dome was added and the rock was restored in 2003. It is a historically significant landmark and a popular viewpoint in the city.
