The church was built on the site of a 14th-century hermitage and has undergone several phases of reconstruction, especially in the 15th and 18th centuries. Fuente de Cantos is a municipality in the province of Badajoz. With Arab heritage, in the same region there was an Arab town that has now disappeared, called Lakant, on the left bank of the Guadiana.
