On July 8, 1810, after landing on the Grande Chaloupe, a serious battle broke out between the French and the English. Both sides lost many men before the French surrendered. This mausoleum was only built in 1840 at the request of Nicole Robinet de Laserve, while the English expelled from the island were already honoring their dead with a mausoleum. On one side there is a marble slab honoring Hubert Delisle, Manès and Charles Deybassyns. Another plate on the other side lists the names of five military rangers. The Church of Our Lady of Salvation in the heart of Saint-Pierre Reunion is now classified as a historic building. Built of broken limestone masonry with relief seals, it features a beautiful Tuscan-Gothic façade over twenty meters high on three levels. One can admire twenty-eight terracotta sculptures and an incredible cast Virgin at the top of the facade. Inside, the visitor can admire a beautiful decoration from the early twentieth century by Father Fulbert, a Spiritan of the region.

La Roche Écrite culminates at 2,276 meters above sea level. This summit marks the meeting point between the circuses of Mafate and Salazie which meet at its feet.
