The castle of Forges-les-bains was built in the 17th century, before being remodeled in the 18th century by Edme Mathurin Le Jariel, squire of the king. Currently, some parts are dilapidated, others restored. It is the in-between.

The deed of sale was signed in 1946. The CNRS set up its offices within the castle grounds and its laboratories in part of the park, but committed to preserving the estate as it was.
