In 1480, Jacques III de Olhain had a new castle built in the heart of the village after the destruction of the old feudal castle of "Prés des Veaux", located in the marsh. During the 16th century, the Count of Nédonchel had it fortified. In the 18th century, it was entirely surrounded by deep moats and accessed through monumental gates protected by drawbridges. A dwelling with 81 rooms was completely rebuilt in 1782 by the Marquis de Nédonchel. During the Revolution, the Nédonchels having emigrated, the castle was sold as National Property. In 1793, the bailey and the castle, built only 11 years earlier, were demolished and the materials were transported to Douai to be sold. Today, only part of the surrounding wall remains, the main entrance "the Douai gate" with the date of renovation engraved on the keystone (1783), a square brick dovecote on a sandstone base and an outbuilding (17th century). The property was purchased in 1983 by the commune of Bouvignies from Achille Dujardin and his wife Fernande Fromont. Housed in the seigneurial dovecote, the Maison de la Colombophilie et du Patrimoine Local hosts a permanent exhibition on the history and architecture of dovecotes over the centuries. The association "Bouvignies Hier & Aujourd'hui" is in charge of managing and running this small thematic museum.
