A beautiful historic city gate at the entrance to the middle town. From here, the path leads up to St. Stephen's Cathedral.

Built in 1402 and named after the Gutgesell family of guards, Pope John XXIII was arrested at this gate in 1415 while fleeing the Council of Constance. Today, the upper floor houses the Jesters' Guild Room.

Neuf Brisach has four city gates, each at a 90-degree angle to each other. Only two of the old city gates survived: the Belfort Gate and the Colmar Gate. This gate changed its function several times. Initially, it served as a bakery and kitchen for the army. Later, the Germans converted it into a police station and prison. The upper floor also served as a casino for the German garrison.

The chapel 'Our Lady of the Three Ears of Corn' is famous for an apparition of the Virgin Mary in 1491. In 1968, a modern pilgrimage church was built, which in 1991 received a triple tower as a symbol of the "three ears of corn."

Beautiful old town tucked away. The decorative spire twinkling in the sunlight made us detour to take a look. So glad we did! Stunning town with numerous patisseries & cafes and plenty of places to sit in the sunshine & watch the world go by. Highly recommended 👌
