If you are looking for a mysterious and intriguing destination for your next stroll, you can visit Le dungeon apocryphe, a solitary tower that stands in the middle of the valley in Saint-Germain-sur-Avre. This tower dates from the 12th century and was part of a fortified castle which was destroyed during the Hundred Years' War. The origin and function of this tower are still unknown, and some legends say that it was built by the devil himself.

The Avre Aqueduct is a 19th century water supply system that stretches over 100 kilometers from Rueil-la-Gadelière to Saint-Cloud and provided Paris with drinking water. Along the way, you can admire the impressive technical prowess of the aqueduct, such as the arcades above the Eure, the siphons through the valleys and the tunnels under the hills. One of the best places to see is near Saint-Rémy-sur-Avre, a charming town crossed by the river Avre and endowed with a rich heritage of churches, castles and bridges. You can follow the marked path that will take you to Escorpain, where you can see the work of Tue-Cheval, one of the most remarkable parts of the aqueduct.

The Château d'Escorpain is a 16th century castle which belonged to the famous Firmin-Didot family of printers and publishers. You can admire the elegant facade and the imposing portal of the castle, classified as historical monuments. You can also discover the surrounding countryside, crossed by the Pluche, a tributary of the Avre. You will appreciate the green landscapes and the peaceful atmosphere of this rural village.

Buying this castle dating originally from the 15th century, Alfred Firmin-Didot, owner of the printing press at Mesnil-sur-l'Estrée, not far from here, undertook the restoration of the building in 1879. In particular, he had the sheepfold transformed into a library. which hosts the works published at the family printing house. His descendants remained the owners of this estate, which they bring back to life through various activities.

The Avre is a charming river which acts as a border between Normandy and the Centre-Val de Loire. The arms it forms below Mesnil-sur-l'Estrée are delightful. Do not hesitate to cross them using the small bridge which overhangs them.

It is made up of four sandstone plates, two for the legs and two for the table (roof). Only one side of the dolmen exists, the two table plates are placed on the two vertical side stones (orthostats). The whole forms a prism.
