Bastia's Old Port (Vieux Port) is the historic heart of the city and one of the most charming places in all of Corsica. ⚓ Brief description: Location: Nestled in the old town (Terra Vecchia), protected by two piers. Atmosphere: Mediterranean, lively, and picturesque – with colorful, old house facades, fishing boats, and cafés right on the water. Use: Today primarily for small boats and yachts, but with visible traces of the former fishing tradition. Highlights: The port is surrounded by narrow streets, restaurants, and the baroque Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, whose twin towers dominate the scene. Conclusion: Bastia's Old Port combines history, maritime life, and Corsican charm – ideal for strolling, photographing, and enjoying the scenery.

🌊 Panoramic view of the picturesque Vieux-Port with its pastel-colored houses, yachts, and lighthouse – a classic Corsican motif. View over the city: From the fortified walls and the "chemin de ronde," the view sweeps far over Terra Vecchia, Bastia's historic old town with its narrow streets and rooftops. Sea and island panorama: On clear days, the view extends as far as the Tuscan islands (Elba, Tuscan Archipelago). Quiet promenade atmosphere: Picturesque walkways along bastions such as San Gerolamo and San Carlu, surrounded by lush greenery and medieval battlements. Access & accessibility: Via stairs from the Vieux-Port up to the citadel – a short but worthwhile climb with a rewarding view.

Old icehouses dating from the 16th and 18th centuries allowing the conservation of cold. Beautiful views along the path on Bastia, the pond of Biguglia and the Gulf of Saint-Florent. The paths are well maintained.

Saint John the Baptist (Saint Jean Baptiste), to whom this church in Bastia is dedicated, is—like Saint Joseph—a man on the threshold between the Old and New Testaments. His parents are Zechariah and Elizabeth. After announcing the Incarnation through them, the Mother of God visits her relative Elizabeth, who, in her old age, will give birth to a son, John the Baptist. John the Baptist is six months older than Jesus and is considered his forerunner. He lives in the desert, preaches repentance from sin to the Jewish population, and baptizes them in the Jordan River. Jesus also comes there to be baptized, where he is filled with the Holy Spirit, who descends upon him from heaven. The feast day of Saint Jean Baptiste in the calendar of saints is June 24, exactly six months before Christmas Eve.
