Pierrefonds Castle is the showcase of the town's tourism. It is the meeting point or passage point for many events. It has also been the support for exhibitions, films and TV series. This castle represented Pierrefonds' main asset during its participation in the "Favorite Village of the French" competition in 2020.

The Château de Pierrefonds is already exceptional because of its immense size. Built for the Prince of Orléans (14th century), it is, together with the Château de La Ferté-Milon in the Aisne, an architectural masterpiece for its time. Destroyed and then rebuilt thanks to the architectural star, Eugène Viollet-le-Duc (1857), into a neo-Gothic residence, into a magnificent medieval palace. Through polychrome paintings, he visited the fairytale setting, the immense 52-metre-long Salle de Preuses, the chapel and of course the richly sculpted decorations that illustrate the stately life of the Middle Ages in an archaeological style. Filmmakers have set up their sets in the waiting room and have immortalised The Hunchback, Donkey Skin, The Visitors, the Merlin series, Joan of Arc and many others on film. Walt Disney was also inspired by this ideal place, to create his Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Snow White ...

The first known castle at a place called la Noue or la Noüe was built at the end of the 10th or at the very beginning of the 11th century in the town of Pisseleux, in the commune of Villers-Cotterêts. It was replaced by another castle built in the 13th century and then in the 15th and 16th centuries, the enclosure, the keep, the dovecote and the turret can still be seen on the facade of the main building.
