The Église Saint-Martin in Ansouis is a 13th-century Romanesque church and a listed historic monument. It is located directly along the city walls and is part of a fortified complex with the neighboring château. Its striking feature is the bell gable with four round-arched openings above the triumphal arch. The interior consists of a vaulted hall with a transept and a rectangular apse. Particularly noteworthy are a gilded high altar, a five-part reredos in honor of Saint Elzéar and Blessed Delphine, and a baptismal font from 1672. The church was reinforced in the 16th century with stones from the old castle. For a time, it also served as the château's court. Its walls still show the remains of the original loopholes. Saint-Martin has been a filming location for films such as "Jean de Florette" and "Manon des Sources." It is open daily and is a testament to Provençal history and architecture.

Accessible year-round, the Lourmarin valley reveals splendid landscapes, between limestone cliffs and Mediterranean vegetation. It's also a top climbing destination, with world-renowned spots. At the bottom of the valley, the Aigue Brun adds a touch of freshness to this crossing, which is very popular with cyclists. The road can be busy, but coexistence generally remains peaceful.

Superb castle of Lourmarin

Perched on a hill, this Provençal village reveals its stone houses, its winding streets, and its church which dominates the landscape. Surrounded by vineyards, olive trees and lavender fields, Bonnieux blends perfectly into the picturesque scenery of the Luberon. The Chemin des Cabanes, lined with small dry stone shelters typical of the region, offers an idyllic perspective.

André Estienne was born in Cadenet on October 13, 1777. During the Italian Wars, he was with General Bonaparte on the banks of the Alpone river in Arcole. On November 16, 1796, the French troops were blocked in front of the bridge of Arcole. With a small group of officers and soldiers, he blocked the river, bypassed the Austrian lines and beat his drum for the attack that contributed to Napoleon's victory. Napoleon awarded him his silver "drumsticks of honor" in 1801. In 1804, he was awarded the Legion of Honor. His portrait is engraved on the Arc de Triomphe and the Panthéon.
