As a local and a cyclist, I can confirm that the scenery is magnificent and the small roads are ideal for cycling, provided you avoid the peak period from July 15th to August 15th. However, I regret that you only mention the village of Le Rozier in the route descriptions, while the photos are mostly of Peyreleau, a superb, unspoiled village, away from the traffic of the gorges, which it faces on the other side of the Jonte River! Note: Le Rozier is in Lozère, while Peyreleau is in Aveyron.

An exceptional site due to its location. One thing intrigues me: how did the ancients build with stone at such heights? Even on the backs of mules, the task of climbing the 500m drop from the Tarn is gigantic. Other questions: how did they live there? Certainly no prayers.

Not for the faint hearted, but worth the effort. Excellent views near summit if you dont fancy jacob’s ladders.

What a beautiful hidden world! I was thrilled when I made my first hike here and came across the two stone blocks above the Causse Méjean. These two monoliths are commonly called the "Vase de Sèvre" and the "Vase de Chine," in reference to their striking shapes.

Le Rozier was known in Gallo-Roman times as a pottery-making town; it was a town of great religious importance in the 11th century when the monks built the Saint-Sauveur church. The town name comes from the roses that were once cultivated there.

The Ermitage Saint-Michel, is in fact an old fortress (fortress of Montorsier) which faces the Causse Méjean from the ledges of the Causse Noir.

The Rocher de Capluc is a formidable rocky promontory at the tip of the Causse Méjean (causse located between the gorges of the Tarn and the Jonte, therefore between the Causse de Sauveterre and the Causse Noir, hence its name “Causse Médian”). It thus offers a 360° view of these gorges and causses.

Le Rozier is a rural commune which has no more than 150 inhabitants. Situated at the foot of the Causse Méjean and at the confluence of the Tarn and Jonte gorges, the bucolic little town makes an excellent base camp for your most beautiful expeditions. You will also find all the amenities there, from accommodation to catering.

A former defense and observation post surmounted by a vanished castle, the rock of Capluc is today a must-see on the Causse Méjean. Its summit is accessible by ladders (no equipment is necessary for the ascent). It is now topped by a large iron cross which dominates the confluence of the Tarn to the west and the Jonte to the south. The name of Capluc derives from the association of the words “cap” and “luz” which would mean “head” and “light”. These words would thus symbolize the place where the first rays of the rising sun shine.

Standing alongside the path, the vases of Sèvres and China are two endemic monoliths of the Causse Méjean. Observe them to understand the origin of their names. In addition to delighting curious geologists, they are also a paradise for climbing enthusiasts. With a bit of luck, you can watch some of them reach the top and flirt with the vultures circling in the air.
