In the 19th century, as the city grew, access to water became crucial. In 1878, the Compagnie Générale des Eaux was awarded the concession for the 32-kilometer Vésubie Canal to supply Nice with water. This waterfall, built in 1885 on Château Hill, is the culmination of the park's development work begun in the mid-19th century, serving as a spillway for the waters of the Vésubie River.
