The Col de Herrenfluh is located at an altitude of 837 metres in the Vosges, between Uffholtz and Wattwiller. The summit is located along the Route des Crêtes and offers magnificent views over the Rhine Valley and the surrounding forests. Nearby are the ruins of the Château du Herrenfluh, which was once an observation post during the First World War (but difficult to reach for a cyclist).

Like the other roads in the Thur Valley that provide access to the Grand Ballon, this climb is one of the toughest in the Vosges Mountains. The climb is 15.8 kilometers long at an average gradient of 6.1%, with a beautiful section through the Col Amic.

From Soultz: Very nice climb. The road surface is great, runs smoothly and you mainly drive through a shady forest with the occasional glimpse through the trees. Few cars encountered, at the end a beautiful meadow and then at the top you can continue to the Grand Ballon.

On this beautiful, small road to Col Amic you are almost alone. The beautiful view but comes later on the way to the summit!
