A stunning view of the Rhine plain and the Kaiserstuhl hills, well worth seeing. The tower can be easily climbed via a spiral staircase; the ascent is very narrow via a stone staircase inside the tower.

Magnificent vantage point near the three castles with a wide view of the Rhine plain, and in good weather the view extends as far as the Black Forest.

The oldest of the three castles, built on a Romanesque outcrop in 1006 by Count Hugh IV of Eguisheim and his wife, Heilwige, Countess of Dabo, the castle was destroyed in 1026 by Duke Ernest of Swabia. This structure consisted of three distinct parts: the upper part housed the count's quarters, the middle part housed the servants and officers, and the lower part housed the soldiers. The stables were also located there.

It was built in 1144 by the Count of Ferrette and destroyed in 1197, following the revolt of Philip of Swabia, brother of the Emperor, against Emperor Henry VI.
