The "La Croix Saint-MICHEL" standing here, rising above a round stone column, is, as the name suggests, obviously dedicated to the famous archangel. His name (from the Hebrew language) means "Who is like God?" Saint-Michel is often depicted - in paintings or as a statue - with a flaming sword, or occasionally a lance. Michael is one of the archangels who (according to human imagination) occupy the highest rank in the heavenly hierarchy of angelic beings.

The national domain of Marly-le-Roi with its castle was built to serve as a resort, a real 'country house' and gamekeeper for King Louis XIV. The lands of the forest of Marly-le-Roi abound in game, which made it a very popular place for the sovereign. The castle was destroyed during the French Revolution, and remains to this day an area very widely visited by tourists and used by locals as a place to stroll.
