To admire this private castle, simply register at the equestrian center, the first activity on the estate, take the path along the Erdre, or go to the opposite bank, at a place called Gachet. The castle was the stately home of La Chapelle-sur-Erdre at the end of the 13th century. It became the possession of Arthur de Lespervier, great huntsman of the Duke of Brittany who had the castle built at the end of the 15th century in the flamboyant Gothic style of that of Goulaine. It became a Protestant stronghold at the beginning of the 16th century with its new owner, François de la Noue known as Bras de Fer, faithful companion of Henri IV. It was restored in the 19th century by the Poydras de la Lande family.

The port of Grimaudière is a small marina in Erdre. It notably welcomes the premises and boats of the ANCRE association (Association Nautique de la Chapelle-sur-Erdre). A public ramp is also available for launching boats. This port is also the ideal place for a picnic or a moment of relaxation. A space has been set up with tables and benches. At this point the Erdre is particularly magnificent and you have a splendid view of the Château de la Gascherie which is adjacent and Port Jean which is on the other bank.

Stop or destination, Sucé / Erdre, the "pearl of Erdre", is to be discovered, between river, canal and forest; you will often come across many bikes there, on the road and paths, and also often cyclists on the terraces of cafes and restaurants 😉. Also look for Snow White's house...

A nice gravel path in the forest, wide enough for several bikes. Suitable for bikes with thicker tires, however if you have thinner ones there is a mark on the sides where there are fewer stones.

Sucé-sur-Erdre is located about 15 kilometers north of Nantes on the banks of the Erdre river. The municipality has a port on the river, which widens a few kilometers north to Lac de Mazerolles, on the west bank of which begins the 11.3 km² Mazerolles bog. The name of the municipality, first mentioned in the 10th century, comes from the Latin sulcus, which means furrow in German, and from the Celtic erdam, which means small river. Sucé was a stronghold of Calvinist preachers in the 16th and 17th centuries. Under Charles IX, during the First Huguenot War, Huguenots, who were forbidden to practice their religion in Nantes, retreated to Sucé and built a fortified meeting place there, of which only the Tour Gaillard remains today. The Bishop of Nantes ordered its destruction in 1677. Source: Wikipedia
