A very nice road for cycling and only moderate traffic. It's busy at the top, even in summer. They want to offer families entertainment and exercise. Not my style at all—but the people in the valleys can earn their living from it.

From Martigny, the gradient is very steady, between 7 and 8.5%. If you ride on the outside of the road (downhill), it's quite scary, high above the vineyards below... And there's only one low guardrail. I was overtaken several times at very close range.

Beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding mountain scenery. Some of the roads are newly paved, so the ride up and down is fun.

The gradient from Martigny is relatively steady, between 7-8.5%. With the stunning mountain scenery in view, the nearly 1,000 meters of elevation gain are quickly conquered 😎

The villages of Beaufort sur Doron and Arêches are a destination of choice for cyclists (and hikers), with legendary sites and passes: Lake and Cormet de Roselend, Col du Pré, Signal de Bisanne, Vallée des Glaciers, and a little further, the Col du Petit Saint Bernard.

It has stood in the very center of Chamonix since 1887. This statue pays homage to the pioneers of Mont Blanc. It is often wrongly believed that these were the first two men to have climbed the famous highest point. But this is not the case. If the man who points his index finger towards the top is indeed Jacques Balmat, the second character is not Doctor Paccard. Together, the two Chamoniards made the first ascent of Mont Blanc in August 1786.
