Kellogg is nestled in Idaho’s Silver Valley, at the foothills of the Bitterroot and Kootenai ranges. The town was built during the late 1800s mining boom and named after Noah Kellogg. Popular activities in Kellogg include visiting Silver Mountain Resort, mountain biking, hiking, playing disc golf, taking a gondola ride, and exploring nearby waterways.

There are a handful of different trails in the Canfield Butte area of Idaho Panhandle National Forest, and a lot of them have pretty simple names. Trail 1 is the main trail heading towards West Canfield Butte and is one of the most trafficked trails in the area. This is a really pretty forest trail with sporadic views of the foothills and city behind.

The actual summit of West Canfield Butte is locked in the trees and doesn't even have a path to it, but this viewpoint is on a little bald spot at almost the same elevation on the mountain. You get an awesome view of Coeur d'Alene from here, but you also get some views of the city and a forest scene basically the entire hike up the mountain.

From the trail, there is a nice view of the valley just before the land kicks up into the mountains. You can parts of the Bitterroot River and into Missoula.

The Mineral Point Trail boasts magnificent lake views and a leisurely path through old- and new-growth forest. The stunning Monarch Mountains can be viewed from the trail, which ends (or begins) at the Green Bay campground, which features a beach, picnic tables, and fire rings.

Mount Coeur d'Alene is a modest summit that rises above the city of the same name. There are a few ways to the top, with the Caribou Ridge Trail being a popular way up and down for both hikers and mountain bikers. The views across Wolf Lodge Bay and Lake Coeur d'Alene are lovely.

Lake Como combined with El Capitan? Surely not? Well, it's neither the famous Yosemite El Capitan or Italy's beautiful Lake Como, but the Bitterroot's Como and El Cap are spectacular in their own right. The Little Rock Creek Trail leaves Lake Como behind to venture deep into the Bitterroot Range, towards Como Peaks and El Capitan, which tower majestically. On a still day, El Capitan is reflected beautifully in Little Rock Creek Lake, at the end of the trail.

The Caribou Ridge Trail ascends to Mount Coeur d'Alene for some panoramic lake views. You can expect to share the trails with mountain bikers, as it's a popular route. The openeing half of this hike is generally the most challenging, as you zigzag your way up quite steeply.
