A few years ago I took part in a mountain bike ride that went through this tunnel. The organizers had a very good idea, at regular intervals there was a character disguised with a white cape holding a torch, hello chills. A very good memory!!

As described above, this tunnel is very dark until the middle, then you will see the end on the other side of the bend. At the moment when you enter the pupil has not yet adapted to the dark and you will see almost nothing. Even a phone light won't be enough to see clearly. It is towards the bottom that the eye has adapted that you will be more comfortable, especially when seeing the outcome. Leaving the Luxembourg side the path is quite neglected, old trees and ruins of buildings and above all muddy. I call it the "Blair Witch Trail" for its gloomy effect and who knows... maybe there is something else :-)

old blast furnaces / new modern buildings / shopping center / ... I was surprised at how little there was going on there. Belongs to Esch only Alzette, which is European Capital of Culture in 2022.

you can climb onto one of the blast furnaces. From there you have a nice selection of the area.

A new district has emerged from the former steelworks site. some towers/buildings remain and have been nicely restored. Many new modern buildings were built around it. a tower serves as a viewing platform - entry costs!

A successful urban development and conversion project worth seeing! A new district with a university, university library (opened in 2018), shopping center, hotels, restaurants and bars was created around the old blast furnace from the steel industry's past.

Fantastic view when you drive into the Gielen Botter from above. The old open-cast mining area "Giele Botter" (iron ore) is now a nature reserve of one hundred hectares in a remarkable natural environment.
