After the Galibier, if that's not enough for you, you can also get the Tèlègraphe.

From the hill, if we exclude the overbuilding that has also affected this area, one can enjoy a splendid panorama of the nearby peaks and in particular of the Aiguilles d'Arves, which are in a way the symbol of the entire area. From the pass, if you continue, you descend towards St. Sorlin d'Arves and join up with the road which, starting from St. Jean de Maurienne, continues towards the pass of the Croix de Fer. I preferred to go back towards Albiez to descend directly to St Jean, avoiding the tunnels that I would have had to go through when descending from St Sorlin.

This is a place that definitely deserves a stop while touring. Cyclists, walkers, motorcyclists, mountain bikers, .... all can go there. (Catering business, parking, outdoor terrace, ...) Several picnic areas and information boards in the immediate vicinity.

The Col du Lautaret is the last climb before heading to the summit of the Col du Galibier. The Lautaret route can be quite busy; the best day to ride is Sunday, when heavy goods vehicles are banned.

from the Col du Lautaret you go either in the direction of Bourg d'Oissans and Alpe d`'Huez or to Briancon, unless of course if the Lautaret is only the prelude to the Galibier, then you climb into the high mountains from here.

Reaching an altitude of 2,642 meters, the Galibier Pass connects Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne to Briançon via the Télégraphe and Lautaret Passes. The Tour de France first crossed the Galibier on July 10, 1911, at the initiative of Henri Desgrange, the Tour's founder. Since then, this pass has become legendary. The riders who set out to conquer the pass back then were nicknamed "convicts of the road." Not all of them made it to the top. I'm sure you'll be able to meet this formidable challenge. The road is now as smooth as a billiard table, and you have a very good derailleur.

It's essential to pass the Télégraphe test before tackling the Galibier. The name "Télégraphe" is strange, but the explanation for its name is quite simple: this mid-level pass, with an altitude of 1,565 meters, takes its name from the fort that was built there between 1885 and 1893. This fort no longer exists today. The Relais du Télégraphe will instead offer you refreshments, supplies, and meals.

After the village of Grave, here you are at the famous Col du Lautaret. Its neighbor the Col du Galibier is very close. If you still have enough courage, desire and legs to do it, then attempt the climb. You will thus have two of the most famous passes in France under your belt, in the same day. Otherwise, sit down on a terrace to enjoy a good blueberry pie. For information: the Col du Lautaret is at an altitude of 2,057 meters, and the Col du Galibier peaks at 2,642 meters. The distance to cover between the two is 8.52 kilometers, with an elevation gain of almost 600 meters.

Located in the town of Albiez-Montrond, view of the plateau, the hamlets, the high massifs, and Lauzière opposite. Breathtaking landscapes!
