A true insider tip, you can spend a few hours exploring here, rummaging through the ruins to your heart's content, and dreaming about what it used to look like. Everything is nestled in an idyllic valley. The village above is a bit sleepy, but charming. Since we were completely alone here, we liked it better than the more touristy Tours de Merle.

The Château Inférieur is now a ruin. The two towers are located on a rock 150 m above the stream.

Belcastel (“war castle”, from the Latin bellum and castellum) is a magnificent medieval village built on the banks of the Aveyron under an imposing castle. The village is now listed as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France, with for example a magnificent bridge spanning the river since the 15th century.

Impressive village with its two emblematic towers planted on a rocky outcrop, a lush medieval garden and a charming town centre. Pedestrian paths allow you to visit the surroundings of the towers.

In the heart of the Aveyron gorges, this picturesque stone bridge served a Gallo-Roman road linking Rodez to Cahors. Preserved natural setting. Hiking trail (GR 62 B). This ancient way allowed the movement of cattle, goods as well as ore extracted from the mines of the region of La Bastide l'Evêque. The bridge, an ambitious urban marker or a modest means of crossing a river or a river, was attached to seigneurial rights. Its defense was frequent and the work was used to charge taxes to travelers and merchants. The castle, of which a few ruins remain, ensured the lookout upstream and downstream of the river. A round tower still visible was in the enclosure of the castle, which occupied the English during the Hundred Years War.

This Pont du Parayre, more illustrious than its neighbour, the Pont de l'Hôpital, looks beautiful. Romanesque in style, its construction dates back to the 11th or 12th century.
