Protecting 52 ha of wetlands, the Nature Reserve is home to characteristic habitats of the Landes accessible by a slatted path: swamp forest, peat bog, pond, stream. The Black Pond which gives its name to the reserve is distinguished by its deep waters and muddy bottoms.

Saint John the Baptist (Saint Jean Baptist), to whom this church is dedicated, is – like Saint Joseph – a man on the threshold of the Old and New Testaments. His parents are Zechariah and Elizabeth. After the proclamation of God's incarnation, the Mother of God visits her relative Elizabeth, who will give birth to a son in old age, John the Baptist. This is half a year older than Jesus and is considered his forerunner / pioneer. He lives in the desert, preaches the repentance of sins to the Jewish population and baptizes them in the Jordan, where Jesus also comes to be baptized, being filled with the Holy Spirit that descends on him from heaven. The memorial day of Saint John the Baptist (Jean-Baptist) in the calendar of saints is on June 24th, exactly half a year before 'Christmas Eve'.

A beautiful, calm pond suitable for bird watching. The road to get there does not have a cycle path, unlike most of the roads in the region which are often lined with a beautiful track.

The 16th-century church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste is located in Saint-Jean-de-Marsacq. Particularly interesting are wall paintings in the church.
