Super lighting with color change (September 2025)

Vogüé, the charming village with small houses at the foot of an imposing rock face. Stone calades (small paved alleys), typical of the old villages in Ardèche with narrow streets beautiful to drive through and catch your breath.

A beautifully situated village with narrow streets. The large bridge is a great place to swim in the Ardèche. One of the shops, La Virginie Episerie d'Ardèche, on the grande rue, serves delicious goat ice cream and offers shady seating. They also sell snacks and many regional delicacies to give as gifts.

Fantastic view

Gigantic view! This tour is really worth it and you don't need to be afraid of the altitude, it's gentle.

Embedded in the limestone of the cliff, the old town, classified among the "Most Beautiful Villages of France", forms an amphitheater at the edge of the gorges. A picturesque site renowned for its exceptional panoramas… Among the places to visit, the Château de Vogüé is worth a detour. In the old village, the tightly packed houses with medieval arcades on Rue des Puces, the narrowest street in France, meet rustic wells and more recent architecture... The Romanesque chapel proudly displays stained glass windows by Alfred Manessier. And the beach by the river promises moments of pure relaxation at all times.

On the accessible side, it is defended by a monumental wall presenting three stages of construction. The first is represented by a rectilinear dry stone wall, pierced by a cart door which delimits a four-hectare oppidum, dated 130 AC Then, the enlargement of the oppidum results in a massive work punctuated by square towers involved in the work. An external clavicula, usually found in Roman camps and serving as the forward defense of the gate, and the use of mortar to bind the core are seen in this second phase dating back to around 80 AC. Finally, a third phase, around 50 AC, doubles this construction of overhanging towers, alternately round and square. This last state uses mortar more widely for facings and towers. At the rear of these fortifications is perceptible a habitat composed of houses of different sizes interspersed by a network of roads. This site is undoubtedly the former administrative center of the city of the Helvians, before the creation of Alba Helviorum."
