1월 3, 2024, Château du Val
Very pretty hunting lodge, transformed into a castle for Louis XIV for almost 10 years. For 3 years, it has become a very pleasant hotel restaurant, especially for its Sunday brunches. You can access it by bike or car - You can pass there during a mountain bike hike in the forest of St Germain

Built between 1640 and 1650 for René de Longueil, the Château de Maisons is a modern château for the time in which classical and baroque aesthetics blend. This is the first large “open” castle with its central vestibule and open staircase. Designed to receive the King after the hunt, the Château de Maisons was completed in 1651. It wonderfully embodies the spirit of its time. Symmetry, majesty, balance of forms, elegance of the roofs: it is a true model which prefigures classical art...

This small castle from the end of the 17th century was designed by the architect François Mansart, for Jean Dyel, Count d'Aufflay and Ambassador of Louis XIV in Venice. Since 1999 it has been owned by Olivia Hsu Decker. This castle became famous thanks to the scenes filmed in the movie Da Vinci Code. If it cannot be visited, you can rent it for one or two days.

Would deserve to be reclassified to cycling simply, a mountain bike is not necessary. Please keep the mountain bike category for the essentials that require at least a mountain bike. Thanks, have a good ride.

1월 24, 2021, Les caves du nord - Maisons-Laffitte
Located at the very end of Avenue Albine, opposite the castle, the Caves du Nord are today a place to relax, walk and practice jumping. But this occupation of the premises is very different from what it was originally, in the middle of the 17th century, when they were called “the King’s entrance” Brief history… 1658 The castle and its lands became a marquisate and René de Longueil obtained authorization from Louis XIV to close the castle park. Built between 1659 and 1670 by François Mansart, the building must be both monumental and protective in order to welcome the King during these hunts in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. It was a set made up of two gates, South and North, and 6 pavilions distributed on either side of the central ditches.

The North gate (Caves du Nord) which must be taken to go to the forest, remains the only one of the 2 gates still standing, in fact there were 2 gates. It was the royal entrance that the king used to get to the castle when he arrived from Saint-Germain en Laye. From the Pont de Maison-Lafitte, you can see the castle in the distance, at the bottom of its garden. On the other side, we discover the main entrance with its golden gates. A real architectural nugget!
