Carbini has barely more than 100 inhabitants, but it is nevertheless a historic place. The Giovannali, a 14th-century breakaway group of the Franciscans, had their roots here. Because they refused to pay taxes, they became enemies of the state and were brutally massacred during a crusade. The Sentier des Giovannali still commemorates them today, and from the summit, "A Punta," one can enjoy a fantastic panorama.

The Col de Larone is basically just a small bump that you have to overcome on the way between the Bavella Pass and Solenzara.

A very quiet and beautiful route, with hardly any traffic. When I drove along the road in mid-June 2025, I was particularly struck by how green it was. I doubt it's still midsummer. But what would be soothing even then is the abundant shade provided by the trees along this stretch through the forest.

From the dam, you have a magnificent view of the mountains to the north. The reservoir was created to provide drinking water, so swimming is prohibited here.

The reservoir was created to provide drinking water, so swimming is prohibited, even though the lake looks inviting. However, this ban doesn't stop the cows from cooling off with their feet 😁 The lakeshore is a great place to linger, and you've certainly earned a break after completing the climb from Porto Vecchio.

A bit run down on the outside, but that doesn't detract from the spring water: cool and delicious.

L'Ospedale is named after a hospital established here long ago, in 1762, to treat malaria patients from the then marshy area around Porto Vecchio. From up here, you have a magnificent view of the bay of Porto Vecchio and southern Corsica.

10월 8, 2024, View of Bonifacio and the Cliffs
Archaeological finds, such as the Lady of Bonifacio, prove that the area was inhabited in prehistoric times. It was officially founded in 828 by the Tuscan Count Bonifacio II. In 1187, the Genoese managed to take the city by ruse, bringing with them their Ligurian language, which is still spoken today. Apart from an interruption in the years from 1553 to 1559 (Sampiero Corso), Bonifacio remained in Genoese hands until 1768. Bonifacio has been under French rule since 1768. In 1793, Napoleon prepared the failed invasion of Sardinia here. During the Second World War, Bonifacio, like all of Corsica, was occupied by German and Italian troops in 1942.

Bonifacio (Corsican Bunifaziu; Ligurian Bunifazziu or Bonifaçio) is a port city on the southern tip of the French Mediterranean island of Corsica (department of Corse-du-Sud) with 3200 inhabitants. It gave its name to the strait of Bonifacio between Corsica and the island of Sardinia, twelve kilometers away.
