Towering over Argenton-sur-Creuse is the gilded statue of the Bonne Dame, a beacon visible from afar. What few people know is that this six-meter-high statue was dragged from the train station to the chapel in 1899 by ten oxen and thirteen horses, to the loud applause of the town's inhabitants. Today, you can hike up the hill yourself and be rewarded with a panoramic view of the Creuse valley—with the Bonne Dame still standing guard over the town.

Located on a small height which offers a very extensive view of the valley, the castle is made up of two buildings at right angles with several turrets. With the exception of a few buttresses, the traces of fortifications still visible at the beginning of the 17th century have now disappeared.

A very interesting castle. It is privately owned but can be rented for events. It was the setting for the Channel 4 show Escape the Castle. Legend has it that the last wolf in the area was shot from a window of the castle. For more information on the château check: https://thechateau.tv/

From this bridge, you have a lovely view of the colorful houses of Argenton-sur-Creuse. Argenton-sur-Creuse succeeded the Gallo-Roman city of Argentomagus in Saint-Marcel. The site still contains exceptional traces and remains of the ancient city.
