The old center remains attractive with its houses made of "mud" and wood, Poitiers was called the city of a thousand bell towers. You must visit the Saint-Paul cathedral, Notre-Dame-la-Grande, and wander along the banks of the rivers that are the Clain, the Boivre. The Château de Coussay, inspired by the Italian Renaissance, is one of the first examples of the French Renaissance. Armand-Jean Duplessis, then bishop of Luçon, lived there before becoming the famous Cardinal de Richelieu in 1622.

This 15th century castle has a small park with century-old lime trees and has restored its medieval garden. It is now possible to stay there because it has been transformed into a bed and breakfast.

Dungeon and castle chapel which are the remains of a castle fortified by Richard Coeur de Lion. The site is the place of archaeological excavations.
