골드 비치(Gold Beach)가 내려다보이는 영국 노르망디 기념관(British Normandy Memorial)에 깊은 감동을 받았습니다. 가까이 다가가면 숨 막힐 듯 아름다운 "스탠딩 위드 자이언츠(Standing with Giants)" 실루엣 조각들을 볼 수 있습니다. 1,475개의 조각상 각각은 D-Day에 전사한 병사를 나타내며, 근처에 게시된 가족들의 매우 개인적인 메시지로 둘러싸여 있습니다. 진정으로 숙고할 만한 멋진 장소입니다.

These pontoons, made of concrete, were brought here from England and used to build a port to supply the Allies with men, weapons and equipment.

The battery in Longues-sur-Mer is considered one of the best-preserved in France. Located on a 60-meter-high cliff between Omaha Beach and Gold Beach, it was positioned directly opposite the Allied fleet. It is the only battery whose guns are still in place. You can move around freely and walk into anything.

A truly moving and humbling experience. That such a beautiful location as this could have been the site of so much carnage, bravery and loss is incredible. The monument has been long awaited and whilst it can be very sad to see, it is also uplifting to know that all those brave souls will forever be remembered. Access to the site is easy, pay parking available with profits to the charity, toilets are on site and a small museum offers lots of information about Overlord and its Heroes as well as a shop and a café.

Unfortunately, the château was closed due to an event and could only be viewed from the outside. The park was freely accessible, but not particularly noteworthy.
