The old port of Auray is well worth stopping at for some food, drink and/or ice cream. It has lots of lovely old Breton buildings and has a distinct medieval vibe.

Georges Cadoudal is an emblematic figure of the Breton chouannerie, a civil war which opposed Republicans and Royalists during the French Revolution. After an attempted plot against Napoleon, he was arrested and guillotined in Paris in 1804. His body rests in this mausoleum which bears his name.

Ideally located on the famous customs officers' path, the town of Auray is an excellent stopover for walkers setting out to discover Brittany. With 14,000 inhabitants, the ancient medieval city has numerous shops and a wide range of accommodation. It is also appreciated for its port, formerly used for commerce, now appreciated by boaters. To the north of the city, a railway station is served by the Vannes-Lorient line.

Auray is a historic and cultural town which is located in the hollow of the Auray river directly connected to the Gulf of Morbihan. Its emblematic bridge and the port of Saint-Goustan contribute to giving it an incomparable charm.

This church was not dedicated to one of the many people whom we venerate as blessed or saints and ask for their heavenly intercession with God, or - like so many French churches - to the Mother of God ("Notre-Dame"). The chosen patronage here was the incarnate Son of God, Jesus Christ himself, and the church in Auray was consecrated to him under the title “SAINT SAUVEUR” – i.e. as the Redeemer and Savior (Latin: “Salvator”).
