Superb frescoes

Javarzay Castle, the most imposing of its time in Deux-Sèvres, was originally made up of 12 towers, two of which remain today.

Small city of character and stage on the Way of Saint Jacques de Compostelle, Charroux has a lot of charm which make it a pleasant stage. To see: the Saint Sauveur Abbey and its Charlemagne Tower, the medieval Halles of the 16th century and the pretty little streets.

Founded in the 11th century Benedictine priory of Melle belonged to about 50 km away abbey Saint-Jean-d'Angély (also highly recommended!). The former priory church St-Hilaire is a consistently richly decorated pilgrimage church.
