This charming town takes its name from the lumberjacks who made charcoal and sold it to the locals. Their fur coats were blackened with dust. With 1,000 years of history, this pretty fortified town is worth a visit, especially for its castle. A cute village of white stone. The twisty narrow streets and town center have been used in the shooting of a number of movies including "The Hundred Foot Journey" and "Charlotte Gray". There are a plethora of local cafes and restaurants as well as local shops should you be tempted by some local snack.

This stunning hilltop village, with it's old castle literally balanced atop the rock dominates the area and Aveyron river below it. You can take guided visits of the Castle at the top, and the village itself has a few cafes among it's labyrinth of narrow streets.
