On moonless nights, it's not pleasant to walk on this small bridge. Legend has it that on moonless nights, the ghosts of Jean and Julien de Malestroit appear to visitors and the curious. These two headless men then sit on the bridge parapet and argue over money. Don't disturb them, or you'll be beaten to death! Well known in the history of Oudon, Jean and Julien de Malestroit have a reputation as tyrannical and unscrupulous counterfeiters. Around 1520, Jean and Julien de Malestroit, lords of Oudon, decided to create counterfeit money to enrich themselves. At that time, it was easy to mint counterfeit money. To protect the royal treasury, Francis I, King of France, appointed William I of Huillier to judge and condemn the culprits. It is then said that they were condemned to death and beheaded on the meadow of Mauves for an act of felony around 1526.

Vieux Couffé or “Vieil Couffé” was probably the old parish centre of Couffé, originally a priory dependent on the Abbey of St-Aubin d’Angers.

The bridge crossing saw, a long time ago, an ancient road crossing the Hâvre river. A place full of history, atypical and emblematic of Couffé. Note that the Pont Noyer footbridge is removed from November 1st to April 15th, depending on the low water level of the river.
