The castle overlooks the Ain plain. A few benches are available for relaxing while admiring the view. It's possible to walk around the castle by continuing along the path past the entrance. It's accessible with a paid ticket, and opening hours vary depending on the season.

Allymes Castle is the only example of a medieval fortress in Bugey. Overlooking Ambérieu-en-Bugey, it is built on a mountain 650 meters above sea level. Its geographical location offers a breathtaking view of Savoyard Bresse and Dombes. As a strategic stronghold, it protected the entrance to Savoy, which was an independent state at the time. Allymes castle is the only example of a medieval fortress in Bugey. Overlooking Ambérieu-en-Bugey, it is built on a mountain 650 meters above sea level. This hike is a day trip on its own. Magnificent views when you get higher. In winter remember to take waterproof shoes because we quickly find snow. The whole thing is not technical, I would say easy. The climb at the beginning is quite steep but still doable. The only difficulty of this hike remains its distance.
