The Château de Messimy is an important part of the private heritage of the department of Ain. Its history is linked to the surveillance of the ford which made it possible to cross the Saône between Messimy (Ain) and Port Rivière (St Georges de Reneins, Rhône). The current keep dates from the 12th century. The south facade, flanked by two towers, one square, the other rectangular, dates from the 15th and 17th centuries.
