The Mareau islands are part of the Saint-Mesmin nature reserve, an area of the Loire protected over approximately 9km since 2006.

This segment is located on the historic GRP Valley of the Kings trail. The path is very quiet, and there is a real enchanted forest atmosphere.

This trail takes you through fields and vineyards. The vines are intended for the production of AOC Orléans and Orléans-Cléry wines. There are several places of sale and tasting in the area.

The origin of the Butte des Élus is mysterious. It is a mound erected by the hands of man which dates from the Iron Age. The statue of the Virgin was erected later, in gratitude for the protection of the village of Mézières-Lez-Cléry during the war of 1870. A legend says that the young women who pass seven times under the arch which supports this statue, without laughing or smiling, are guaranteed to find a husband or fertility.
