Founded in the 11th century Benedictine priory of Melle belonged to about 50 km away abbey Saint-Jean-d'Angély (also highly recommended!). The former priory church St-Hilaire is a consistently richly decorated pilgrimage church. St-Pierre is a profane Romanesque former priory church in Melle in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The three-nave church of St-Pierre is the third Romanesque church in Melle, next to St-Hilaire and St-Savinien. Despite its three ships, St-Pierre has no companion, but only a Hauptapsis with two Nebenapsiden, whose windows are elaborately surrounded from the outside with plastic decoration ribbons.
